The Round Mountain
Trailhead is located about 12 miles west of Loveland in Big
Thompson Canyon, on the south side of Highway 34 across from
Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park.
Volunteers from the Loveland Mountain Club, in partnership with
the City of Loveland and the U.S. Forest Service, maintain both
the "Nature Trail" and the "Summit Adventure Trail."To see full-size,

In the Spring and
Autumn, volunteers spend a rewarding and enjoyable day
performing trail maintenance on both the 1 mile Nature Trail and
the 4.75 mile Summit Adventure Trail. Their duties include:
cleaning and clearing the drainage berms, trash pickup, removal
of fallen trees on the trail, and trimming vegetation.
Tools for the Summit
Trail are provided by the Forest Service, so volunteers only
need to bring lunch, plenty to drink and a willingness to enjoy
the work and the fellowship.

Nature Trail work is similar
to the Summit Trail, but on a different scale. We schedule
monthly look-over trips for trash inspection because of the
higher traffic on that lower trail. Because it is actually a
road, we've had help from City workers with graders and
front-end loaders when large items need to be moved. Some work
is still required with picks, shovels and rakes.
